On the DVD
Ubuntu Server 15.10 (64-bit) The DVD in this issue packs the newest 64-bit Ubuntu Server edition. In addition to a multitude of incremental improvements, you'll find:
- Linux kernel v4.2.1
- OpenStack Autopilot
- LXD
- MaaS
- Data plane fast packet processing
OpenStack Autopilot is the fastest and easiest way to build a manageable, scalable, and extensible Ubuntu OpenStack Liberty (release 12) cloud. Autopilot fully integrates the OpenDaylight SDN controller and gives you the choice of Swift or Ceph for object storage. Automated scale-out revises the cloud controller services as resources are added.
The LXD container hypervisor hosts Linux guests, providing image management, snapshots, live migration, Fan overlay networking for increasing the number of addressable Docker and LXD containers in a single cloud environment, IPv4 and IPv6 support, and a RESTful API.
The MaaS (Metal as a Service) platform comes with a command-line interface, a redesigned web user interface, and a RESTful API. The Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) preview has libraries and drivers for fast packet processing in high-performance networking. Linux kernel v4.2.1 delivers ACPI support for ARM, Linux Security Module stacking, and the new power allocator thermal governor.
